- Develop and teach a modified secondary English curriculum for ELL students in line with the school teaching and learning policy, including Cambridge English Language exams and iGCSE (EAL) at Key Stage 4.
- Develop and deliver intervention programmes that support the students’ ability to access and succeed in mainstream curriculum subjects.
- Provide small group and individual support for students that are tailored to individual student needs.
- Assess, record and maintain appropriate records of assessment in-line with departmental and school assessment recording processes.
- Follow school and departmental monitoring and tracking systems relating to students’ attainment, progress and achievement and use this information to inform learning and teaching.
- Use data to adjust provision and develop bespoke pathways for students who continue to experience challenges.
- Provide training and support for the team’s teaching assistants so they can continue to grow professionally and provide effective support for students.
- Contribute and work towards achieving the priorities as outlined on the overall Inclusion School Development Plan and the specific ELL School Development Plans alongside the VP for Inclusion and the Secondary SENCo and Secondary ELL Coordinator.
- Provide training for class teachers and support staff on effective inclusive practice and adaptive teaching approaches.
- Provide training for class teachers and support staff on effective strategies to support ELL students in the mainstream classroom.
- Ensure that classroom teachers are fully informed of individual student needs and recommended accommodations and modifications to ensure progress.
- Provide individual support for teachers where a need has been identified.
- Develop and enhance parental and community links.
- Follow all Academy policies and procedures.
- Carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required by Secondary ELL Coordinator or Leadership Team.
- Embody and contribute to our three pillars
- A certified professional teaching qualification, such as B.Ed, PGCE or equivalent specialising in English, EAL, ELL or similar.
- Experience working with students with English as an additional language in a mainstream setting.
- A minimum of 3 years mainstream teaching experience.
- Additional qualification or specialism such as a TEFL/IELTs/CELTA/Cambridge certification is preferred.
- Experience of preparing students for IELTs examinations is preferred.
- Experience in supporting mainstream teachers to develop inclusive practice is preferred.
