Our office environment is one that focuses on honesty and continual improvement, both professionally and personally, and drives excellence through motivational development planning and engaged management.The Role (Read this carefully — this is not a 9–5 job)Drakken is seeking a senior, externally driven Business Development Manager to grow project awards with EPC contractors and mid-size operators across Iraq, Abu Dhabi, and West Africa.This role is best suited to candidates who already maintain an active network of EPC and operator decision-makers within the region and can leverage existing relationships to accelerate market access and opportunity positioning.This is a front-end, relationship-led role. Success depends on your ability to get into rooms with decision-makers, build trust over time, and position Drakken early in the project lifecycle — well before formal tenders are issued.This role suits a commercial hunter with strong technical credibility in Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls, who is comfortable spending most of their time with clients, not behind a desk.Client entertainment, travel, and out-of-hours engagement are not exceptions — they are core to the job.What You Will Be Accountable ForThis role carries direct accountability for originating and converting opportunities into awarded work.External Business DevelopmentBuild and maintain senior-level relationships with EPCs and mid-size operators.Independently access and influence commercial, project, and technical decision-makers.Position Drakken for pre-bid and early-stage opportunities, not just live tenders.• Represent Drakken externally with credibility across E&I scope and project execution.Utilize established personal relationships to secure early visibility of project opportunities and influence positioning prior to tender.Opportunity Creation & ConversionOriginate, qualify, and develop opportunities through the full BD lifecycle.Work with Executive and Commercial leadership to shape pricing, risk, and positioning.Support negotiations through relationship leverage and market insight.Ensure clean handover of positioned opportunities to delivery and commercial teams.Market PresenceMaintain a strong presence in target markets through face-to-face engagement.Attend industry events, client meetings, and informal networking forums.Actively track EPC pipelines, operator spend, and upcoming project activity.Develop and maintain visibility with EPC and operator stakeholders active in Iraq, Abu Dhabi, and West Africa.Team Leadership (Support Role Only)Line-manage two junior sales team members who provide research, coordination, and administrative support.The primary responsibility of this role remains personal external engagement and opportunity generation.What Success Looks LikeMeasurable increase in qualified EPC and operator relationshipsEarly positioning on bankable project opportunities prior to tender issuanceConversion of relationships into awarded workRevenue booked against agreed annual targetsCompensationDrakken offers a competitive base salary with a material, performance-weighted bonus structure where a significant portion of total compensation is tied directly to revenue and project awards.This role is designed to strongly reward results.Why This Role ExistsWe are replacing a passive, internally focused commercial role with a true business development operator.If you need direction to make calls, wait for others to open doors, or prefer managing from behind a desk, this role is not for you.If you already know the people who shape project decisions and enjoy turning relationships into awarded work, we want to talk.Proven experience in Business Development within Oil & Gas or Energy projectsStrong technical understanding of Electrical, Instrumentation & ControlsEstablished professional network within EPC and/or operator organizations relevant to Drakken’s target markets.Demonstrated ability to independently open doors and build senior relationshipsDemonstrated ability to generate opportunities independently, without reliance on inbound leads or internal direction.Track record of winning or positioning project work with EPCs and operatorsComfortable working outside normal office hours to align with client availabilityHigh personal drive, commercial instinct, and resilienceMiddle East experience is strongly preferred.Multi-language capability is an advantage but not essential.Personal Attributes We Are Looking ForNaturally external, confident, and commercially sharpComfortable operating with autonomy and accountabilityCredible with engineers, project managers, and executives alikeHungry, proactive, and outcome-focused — not process-driven• Professional, discreet, and trusted in client environmentsTravel & Work ConditionsFrequent regional and international travelRegular client entertainment and networkingFlexible working hours aligned to business needs and client access
