
Assistant Resident Engineer

- Site Supervision & Quality Control:
- Assist the Resident Engineer in supervising daily road construction activities, ensuring compliance with design drawings, project specifications, and safety standards.
- Conduct routine site inspections to ensure that roadworks, including pavement, subbase, drainage systems, and signage, are being constructed to the highest quality standards.
- Ensure all construction activities align with project goals and regulatory requirements.
- Technical Support & Coordination:
- Provide technical guidance to the contractors and site team on road construction methods, materials, and specifications.
- Assist in resolving any technical issues related to roadworks, including drainage, pavement design, and traffic management.
- Coordinate with the project team, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure smooth execution of roadwork activities.
- Material & Equipment Inspection:
- Supervise the inspection and testing of road construction materials (e.g., asphalt, aggregates, concrete) to ensure they meet the required specifications and standards.
- Monitor the performance of construction equipment to ensure it is used efficiently and safely on-site.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of site activities, including daily progress reports, inspection logs, and material approvals for roadworks.
- Document any issues or deviations from the approved plans and report them to the Resident Engineer for timely resolution.
- Prepare detailed reports on road construction progress, quality, and safety for senior management and stakeholders.
- Health & Safety Compliance:
- Ensure that all road construction activities adhere to safety protocols and environmental guidelines.
- Monitor site activities for potential hazards and implement safety measures to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Conduct regular site safety inspections and attend safety meetings to ensure the well-being of all personnel.
- Progress Monitoring & Scheduling:
- Assist in tracking the progress of roadworks against the approved schedule, identifying potential delays and suggesting corrective actions.
- Ensure that work is being completed on time and in accordance with the project timeline.
- Stakeholder & Contractor Coordination:
- Serve as a liaison between the project team, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and address any concerns related to road construction.
- Participate in meetings with contractors and other stakeholders to discuss project progress, issues, and solutions.
- Environmental & Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations related to road construction, such as stormwater management, waste disposal, and noise control.
- Ensure that construction activities do not negatively impact the surrounding environment or violate local regulations.
- Submittal Reviews & Approvals:
- Assist in reviewing contractor submittals related to roadworks, including method statements, shop drawings, and material approvals.
- Ensure all submittals are compliant with the contract documents and approved design specifications.
- Project Closeout & Handover:
- Assist in the final inspection and commissioning of completed roadworks.
- Ensure all required documentation, such as test results, compliance certificates, and as-built drawings, are completed and handed over to the project owner upon completion.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Provide feedback on construction processes and suggest improvements to enhance the quality, efficiency, and safety of roadworks.
- Stay updated on industry best practices, innovations, and regulatory changes to ensure the project uses the latest methodologies and standards.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with 15+ years of experience in Construction Supervision and Management, including roles as Senior Engineer or Assistant Resident Engineer.
- Proven experience in road construction projects, including pavement design, drainage systems, and traffic management.
- In-depth knowledge of road construction techniques, materials, and quality control procedures.
- Strong understanding of relevant construction codes, standards, and regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Excellent project management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience supervising construction teams.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Primavera, MS Project) and CAD software.
- Familiarity with GIS applications for infrastructure projects.
- Ability to work in challenging outdoor environments and perform physical tasks as needed.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various project sites.
- Fluency in English required; proficiency in additional languages beneficial for diverse project environments.
