The Consultant Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon is responsible for delivering immediate and advanced surgical care to critically injured patients, ensuring rapid decision-making, effective operative management, and continuous patient monitoring across trauma and emergency pathways.Key Responsibilities
- Lead assessment and resuscitation of major trauma and acute surgical emergencies
- Provide consultant-level coverage for trauma calls and emergency surgical cases
- Perform complex trauma surgeries including emergency laparotomies and damage-control procedures
- Oversee inpatient care including ICU coordination and post-operative management
- Participate in trauma team activations and multidisciplinary case discussions
- Ensure adherence to trauma protocols, clinical governance, and safety standards
- Supervise junior doctors, surgical residents, and healthcare teams
- Maintain trauma registry documentation and contribute to audits and accreditation processes
- Engage in teaching, simulation training, and continuous professional development
- Medical degree with specialization in General Surgery or Trauma Surgery
- Board certification in Surgery or equivalent recognized qualification
- Fellowship in Trauma, Acute Care Surgery, or Emergency Surgery preferred
- Minimum 3-5 years of consultant-level experience in high-volume trauma centers
- Proven expertise in emergency and trauma surgical procedures
- Experience in Level 1 or Level 2 trauma systems is advantageous
- Strong leadership, communication, and multidisciplinary coordination skills
