- Provide comprehensive medical care to critically ill patients admitted to the ICU, including those with respiratory failure, sepsis, cardiac emergencies, and multi-system organ failure.
- Conduct thorough initial assessments, formulate diagnoses, and develop individualized treatment plans based on patient conditions and medical history.
- Perform and oversee invasive procedures, such as intubations, central line placements, and arterial catheterizations, ensuring adherence to sterile techniques and patient safety protocols.
- Monitor patients' vital signs, laboratory results, and clinical status to assess response to treatment and identify complications promptly.
- Adjust treatment plans as necessary in response to changes in patient condition, collaborating closely with ICU nurses, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, including surgeons, pulmonologists, nephrologists, and other specialists, to coordinate patient care and treatment strategies.
- Communicate effectively with patients' families, providing updates on patient progress, discussing treatment options, and offering support and guidance during difficult times.
- Prescribe medications and administer treatments. Provide efficient and effective medical care following accepted professional clinical guidelines and standards of care, and as per assigned clinical privileges.
- Refer patients under his/her care to other specialties when appropriate and indicated.
- Work with other colleagues in the department/section to provide 24/7 inpatient coverage based on a mutually agreed work schedule composed by the Chairperson of Department / Section Head.
- Respond to inpatients consultations and outpatient referrals by hospital colleagues within a timeframe that is appropriate to the clinical circumstances and according to hospital policies.
- Provide hands off/hand over sign out to other colleagues when cross covering the service or transferring care.
- Ensure that discharge summaries are completed by the team, ideally at the time of discharge. Outpatient clinics will be conducted as mutually agreed in consultation.
- Give full explanation to patients on procedures and treatments and obtain informed consent from patients before undertaking procedures in accordance with the FUH policy.
- Maintain accurate and complete medical records for all patients seen according to hospital policy.
- Keep family or significant others informed, where possible with the patient's consent.
- Contribute to the development of relevant departmental / Section plans and participate in relevant projects as directed by Chairperson of Department/Section Head.
- Review any plan for new technology or provision of service with the Chairperson of Department / Section Head before progression.
- Demonstrate an awareness of insurance regulations and compensation and the implications on patient management associated with this.
- Participate in medical education of medical /nursing students as assigned by the Chairperson of Department /Section Head or their designee.
- Contribute to the departmental clinical quality assurance system, including clinical audit, review of patient care, updating clinical guidelines.
- Attend departmental and organizational meetings as scheduled.
- Be available to cover their colleagues when they are sick or on leave (within the constraints of his/her existing workload).
- Adhere to departmental, organizational policies and procedures in alignment with DHA and JCI standards.
- MD Critical Care
- Minimum 4-6 years post-specialization experience, with the most recent 3-4 years in a busy private hospital setting In UAE
- Strong decision-making and crisis management abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patient-centered, compassionate, and culturally sensitive approach.
- Valid DHA license/eligibility is essential as Specialist Critical Care
