- Provide senior technical leadership and discipline authority for piping engineering to deliver safe, compliant and constructible designs across the full project lifecycle (Concept/FEED, Detailed Engineering, Procurement support, Construction support and Commissioning).
- Lead and coordinate piping engineering, piping design and equipment layout functions to meet project scope, schedule, cost and quality objectives, with strong interface management in multi-discipline and multi-office execution environments.
- Own technical integrity for piping layouts, stress analysis strategy, piping materials engineering, and procurement support, with proven offshore design leadership as a core requirement.
- HSE, SEAL & Safety in Design
- Demonstrate visible and active commitment to HSE leadership on projects; promote safe behaviours and ensure discipline compliance with project and corporate requirements.
- Drive Safe and Sustainable Engineering outcomes by participating in SEAL alignment and risk/hazard assessment workshops; ensure piping inputs support safe operability and lifecycle thinking.
- Apply Safety in Design principles (ALARP / hierarchy of controls) within piping engineering and ensure hazards/risks are identified, documented and managed through design and reviews.
- Discipline Leadership, Planning and Delivery
- Plan, organize and manage all aspects of piping workload for one major project or multiple projects concurrently.
- Establish and maintain the piping deliverables register; control, monitor and progress deliverables to agreed schedule; provide timely status reporting to project and discipline leadership.
- Develop and manage discipline resource plans (including workshare/GID execution where applicable); coordinate staffing and skills needs with Engineering/Discipline Management.
- Coach, mentor, and technically supervise assigned engineers/designers; provide technical escalation, capability development and effective supervision.
- Ensure design continuity throughout the project and across project phases; maintain consistent engineering intent from design basis through IFC deliverables.
- Technical Authority – Piping Engineering & Layout (Onshore/Offshore)
- Lead development and approval of piping design basis, design criteria, philosophies, specifications and project design instructions (including modeling/drafting procedures).
- Lead the plot plan development and maintenance; ensure integrated topsides/plant layout considering safety, access, operability, maintainability and constructability.
- Coordinate piping and layout activities with other disciplines; lead model reviews, resolve clashes, and drive issue closure to meet project milestones.
- Ensure recognized offshore engineering practices applicable to topsides/plant layout and piping design are adopted and consistently applied.
- Oversee and/or approve piping deliverables such as GA drawings (aboveground/underground), isometrics, tie-in lists, line/service index, special piping items lists, and MTOs.
- Piping Stress Analysis & Pipe Supports
- Define and implement stress analysis strategy and criteria; identify critical lines, unusual operating conditions, and required analysis methods (static/dynamic as applicable).
- Oversee and review piping flexibility/stress calculations and reports; ensure compliance with relevant codes, project criteria and client standards.
- Lead interface management for piping support philosophy, support selection, and timely transfer of piping loads to Civil/Structural.
- Ensure vibration, thermal movement, equipment nozzle loads and support/anchor requirements are addressed early and verified through design and reviews.
- Piping Materials Engineering & Procurement Support
- Provide technical leadership on piping material selection, line classes/specifications, datasheets and special piping items to meet service, integrity and lifecycle requirements.
- Support procurement by preparing/reviewing material requisitions/engineering requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and vendor document reviews for piping-related items.
- Engage with vendors and suppliers to resolve technical queries; ensure purchase-to-specification compliance and timely closure of vendor documentation and actions.
- Quality, Governance and Change Management
- Implement and enforce discipline quality checking procedures; ensure deliverables are produced, checked and issued per project and corporate procedures.
- Identify deviations in scope, estimate impacts, and initiate change/variation notices; support scope, cost and schedule impact assessments.
- Promote consistent application of company engineering governance (“Working the Worley Way”) including compliance to standards, procedures and documentation requirements.
- Client, Supplier and Stakeholder Interface
- Represent piping engineering in meetings with customers, suppliers, subcontractors, licensors and other disciplines; produce required documentation such as minutes and action registers.
- Maintain effective communication flow within the piping team and across disciplines; proactively resolve inter-discipline, vendor and customer issues.
- Provide technical input to proposals, execution strategies and estimates as required, support business development activities through disciplined technical contributions.
- Construction, Commissioning and Brownfield/Offshore Support
- Provide construction support including RFIs/field queries, design clarifications, tie-in and shutdown planning inputs, and resolution of site issues.
- Support commissioning and handover by ensuring piping deliverables reflect approved changes and as-built requirements (where in scope).
- Ensure offshore brownfield constraints are considered in design (access, weight, lifting/handling, hot work limitations, tie-in execution feasibility).
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- 20+ years total experience in piping engineering within Oil & Gas / Energy / Process industries.
- 10+ years detailed engineering experience.
- 10+ years offshore experience, including extended proven offshore design experience (must-have).
- 5+ years detailed engineering offshore (must-have).
- Strong EPC/EPCM execution experience with demonstrated leadership of discipline teams and delivery of major scopes.
- ADNOC standards awareness is a strong advantage; Worley systems familiarity is a plus; GCC experience is a plus.
- Strong leadership and communication skills; ability to lead multi-disciplinary interfaces and multi-office execution.
- Expert knowledge of piping engineering fundamentals including layout, stress, pipe supports and materials engineering.
- Strong EPC/EPCM project execution mindset: planning, progress control, risk management, scope control and change management.
- Client-facing capability with strong stakeholder management and technical persuasion skills.
