Job DescriptionThe College of Information Technology at the United Arab Emirates University is looking for an outstanding Research Assistant to join a project, titled “Vehicular Edge of Thing Computing for Sustainable Internet and Traffic Services at Smart Cities”. The objective of this project is to design, simulate, and analyze the system of vehicular edge-of-things computing for sustainable Internet and traffic-related services in smart cities. The project methodology pursues approaches of mathematical modeling and analytical and simulation studies for networks and communications in a vehicular edge of things computing environment. In addition, the project targets building machine learning-based frameworks for controlled operations and resource allocation in such an environment. The candidate for this position should preferably have a degree in Computer Science/Engineering / Information Technology / Electronics and Communications Engineering or any related field, have excellent analytical skills, and possess strong written and verbal communication skills in English. They should be highly motivated to engage in research, capable of working independently, and open to exploratory work which may demand changing directions and picking up new skills on the go as required. It is desirable for the candidate to possess excellent programming skills and familiarity with various machine learning algorithms, a solid background in data networking technologies, computer networks, and computing systems modeling and analysis, and operations analysis and development experience with any of the mainstream vehicular computer network architectures, protocols, and applications. In addition, the candidate should exhibit an appetite for building mathematical models and numerical simulations for vehicular network technologies, communication architectures, and related protocols and applications. Also, the candidate would work on embedding networking operations with intelligence via employing different machine learning and federated learning algorithms in vehicular networks and related user applications. The candidate is expected to conduct a thorough literature survey on utilizing machine learning algorithms for predicting the existence of network resources, services provisioning, and operation performance in vehicular networking environments. In addition, the candidate is expected to show the ability to work with various analysis simulation tools and mathematical modeling tools, and software libraries and experiment with different approaches, and conduct extensive simulation scenarios to check the accuracy and performance of the developed machine learning models using real datasets and analyze the results. Also, the candidate would apply machine learning-based techniques for extracting insights from big data generated by vehicular communication and networked systems. It is also an expectation that the candidate will contribute towards setting up pilot trials, subsequent scale-up, and dissemination of this work.
