
Medical Laboratory Technologist

- Perform dissection, evaluation, and preservation of donor corneal tissue for transplant and research.
- Prepare tissue for procedures such as PK, DSAEK, DMEK, and other clinical or research applications.
- Ensure full documentation and traceability using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Conduct slit lamp and specular microscopy to assess tissue clarity, cell density, and structural integrity.
- Review donor documentation, serology results, and risk profiles in collaboration with the Medical Director.
- Identify and report any findings that may affect transplant suitability.
- Adhere to internal SOPs and external regulatory standards, including biosafety and sterility protocols.
- Support internal audits, equipment calibration, reagent validation, and environmental monitoring.
- Maintain accurate records, including deviation reports and incident documentation.
- Operate and maintain lab equipment such as biosafety cabinets, centrifuges, slit lamps, and refrigeration units.
- Conduct routine maintenance and report any faults or non-conformities.
- Manage inventory of reagents and consumables.
- Work closely with coordinators, surgeons, and the Medical Director to ensure timely tissue delivery.
- Participate in shift rotations and on-call duties to support urgent transplant needs.
- Train new staff and support clinical rotations or observational trainees.
- Assist in sample preparation and data collection for research projects.
- Support clinical trials and studies related to ocular regenerative medicine and transplant outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory technology, Biomedical Sciences, or related field.
- Certified Eye Bank Technician (CEBT) – mandatory.
- Eligible for or currently holding a valid UAE DoH license as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in tissue banking, transplant labs, or ophthalmic laboratory services.
- Proficient in slit-lamp and specular microscopy, tissue preservation systems, and LIMS platforms.
- Exceptional manual dexterity and precision in handling delicate tissue.
- Strong understanding of sterile technique and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent attention to detail and consistency in documentation.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to perform under pressure in time-sensitive clinical environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory software systems.
- Based in a sterile, cleanroom laboratory environment.
- May involve evening, weekend, or on-call work to support urgent transplant cases.
- Requires handling of human donor tissue with strict adherence to bioethical and safety standards.
