Job DescriptionJob PurposeThe High School Boys Guidance Counsellor supports the academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and college/career development of male students. The role focuses on helping students navigate adolescence, make informed decisions, and prepare for post-secondary pathways within an American curriculum framework.Key Accountabilities§ Embrace and encourage the ethos and standards of excellence as defined in the GEMS Core Values.§ Establish procedures and time frames to provide students with academic, personal, social and psychological counseling.§ Work with new students to ensure a smooth adjustment to the school.§ Listen to students’ concerns about academic, emotional or social problems§ Help students process their problems and plan goals and action§ Mediate conflict between students and teachers§ Improve parent/teacher relationships§ Facilitate drug and alcohol prevention programs§ Organize peer counseling programs§ Refer students to psychologists and other mental health resources§ Work on academic boards to improve learning conditions§ Provide individual and group counseling sessions addressing academic, social, emotional, and behavioral concerns§ Support students in managing stress, peer relationships, and personal challenges§ Promote mental health awareness and resilience among students§ Maintain confidentiality and follow safeguarding protocolsSkillsCandidate Requirements1. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Education, or a related field (required)
Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or a related discipline (preferred)
Certification/licensure in School Counseling (preferred or required depending on regulations)

2. Experience

Minimum 3–5 years of counseling experience in a school setting (high school preferred)
Experience working with adolescents, particularly boys, is highly desirable
