Job Category: AdministrationJob Description:The Approval Officer - Pharmacy Department is responsible for reviewing, verifying, and approving pharmacy-related requests, prescriptions, procurement documents, and controlled medication processes in accordance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and insurance guidelines. The role ensures accuracy, compliance, and timely authorization of pharmacy transactions to support safe and efficient patient care.Responsibilities:Key Responsibilities1. Prescription & Medication Approval
  • Review prescriptions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with medical guidelines.
  • Approve or escalate prescriptions requiring clinical or financial validation.
  • Ensure controlled and high-risk medications are properly authorized.
2. Procurement & Inventory Approval
  • Verify pharmacy purchase requisitions and stock requests.
  • Approve procurement based on budget, necessity, and policy compliance.
  • Monitor inventory movement to avoid overstocking or shortages.
3. Insurance & Billing Coordination
  • Validate medication charges for insurance and billing purposes.
  • Ensure compliance with payer rules and reimbursement policies.
  • Coordinate with billing and finance teams for approvals and corrections.
4. Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure all approvals comply with healthcare regulations and internal policies.
  • Maintain documentation for audits and inspections.
  • Support adherence to pharmacy laws and accreditation standards.
5. System & Documentation Management
  • Process approvals in hospital information systems (HIS/ERP).
  • Maintain accurate records of all approvals and rejections.
  • Generate reports as required by management.
6. Communication & Coordination
  • Coordinate with pharmacists, physicians, and finance teams.
  • Clarify discrepancies in requests before approval.
  • Provide guidance on approval requirements and procedures.
Qualifications:Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Prior experience in hospital pharmacy or healthcare approvals preferred.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical regulations and hospital workflows.
Skills Required
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Knowledge of pharmacy operations and medications
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Familiarity with HIS/ERP systems
  • Good communication and coordination skills
  • Understanding of compliance and audit requirements
