- Lead the design and engineering of roads, paving, and associated infrastructure from conceptual stage through detailed design and construction.
- Prepare road alignment, geometric design, pavement design, and cross-sections in accordance with international standards and project requirements.
- Perform pavement design calculations for flexible and rigid pavements, considering traffic loading (including heavy equipment and abnormal loads), soil conditions, and environmental factors.
- Design road drainage systems, including surface drainage, culverts, ditches, and stormwater networks, ensuring integration with overall site grading and underground utilities.
- Prepare technical specifications, material take-offs (MTOs), and scope of work documents for road construction packages.
- Review and approve road layouts, longitudinal and cross profiles, and detail drawings.
- Coordinate closely with other disciplines (Structural, Process, Pipelines, Electrical, and Instrumentation) to resolve road-related interfaces and clashes.
- Ensure all road designs comply with relevant international standards (AASHTO, BS, ASTM, Iraqi standards, etc.) and Company specifications.
- Provide technical support during tendering, including preparation of technical bid evaluations and responses to contractor queries.
- Support construction phase by reviewing method statements, material submissions, and resolving site technical queries related to roads and paving.
- Conduct value engineering exercises to optimize road design while maintaining safety, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s degree in Highway/Road Engineering is preferred).
- Minimum 8–12 years of relevant experience in road and pavement design, preferably in the oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial sector.
- Strong experience in both greenfield and brownfield road projects, including heavy haul roads and plant internal roads.
- Proficiency in road design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads, or equivalent.
- Solid knowledge of pavement design methods (AASHTO, DMRB, or local standards) and geotechnical input for road design.
- Familiarity with drainage design, culvert design, and road safety standards.
- Experience in preparing technical specifications, bills of quantities, and tender documents.
- Good understanding of construction methods and materials for roads and paving in hot/arid climates is an advantage.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills with the ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Experience working in the Middle East (especially Iraq or UAE) is highly advantageous.
- Knowledge of Iraqi road design standards and regulations is a plus.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight project schedules.
